ALC-0159 is a pegylated lipid that has been combined with other lipids to form lipid nanoparticles for delivery of MRNA-based vaccines. Important factors to consider when developing RNa-based therapies or nucleic acid vaccines include the stability of the RNA outside the cellular environment and the cytoplasm that delivers the RNA to the cell. Lipid-promoted nanoparticle formulations are promising and powerful delivery systems for small RNA and MRNA therapies. Ionizable cationic lipids are key components in lipid promoting nanoparticle formulations. Cationic lipids can form aggregation complexes with anionic genetic material such as DNA or RNA.
